Our next stop – Bodø

R//v Oceanograf and r/v Oceania are just few days away from Bodø. Read about the city earned the title of European Capital of Culture 2024.

Bodø is a small city with about 50 000 inhabitants. The cultural life  here is flourishing and it might be hard to choose among everything the city has to offer. Stormen Concert Hall and Library have received a lot of international attention and have become very popular among the city’s inhabitants. The city has been named a European Capital of Culture in 2024. Other highlights include the Nordland Music Festival and the Parken Festival, which draw thousands of happy audience members every year.

Bodø is located above the Arctic Circle, on a peninsula in the middle of Nordland’s beautiful coastline, and is therefore perfect for those who want an active outdoor lifestyle. A wonderful trail network can be found nearby. In addition, there are several gyms and sports halls. Bodø has unlimited opportunities for those who like hiking, skiing, kayaking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and paragliding. And much more!

NORD University 

The university has 11 000 students and 1300 employees at study locations Bodø, Levanger, Steinkjer, Stjørdal, Mo i Rana, Namsos, Nesna and Vesterålen.

Nord University is committed to delivering relevant educational programmes and research, with a focus on blue and green growth, innovation and entrepreneurship, and welfare, health and education. The university has leading research communities within aquaculture, biosciences, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Nord University has established collaborations with international partners around the globe. In 2023 the university joined SEA-EU alliance as one of the three new partner institutions. ‘Together, we are moving higher education in Europe, and to be a part of that is extremely rewarding and fun’, said Nord University’s rector Hanne Solheim Hansen during the SEA-EU Governing Week in Bodø, that took place in May 2024.

In summary, Bodø is the perfect backdrop for activities planned during BaltArcitic Research Cruise like exhibition ‘Women’s View of the Sea’ or guided tours on research vessels.
